About Daniel Watts is a graphic design student at Maine College of Art & Design in Portland, ME. Working with Maine College of Art & Design, he has collaborated with peers to create brand systems for the AIGA Fellow Awards and the Portland Museum of Art. Daniel is most interested in making editorial work and informational design. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, he creates pieces showing typography and color. He enjoys experimenting with different mediums and textures to use in his designs to push the connection between the screen and real world. Daniel aims to showcase his attention to detail and organization within the work. Going forward, Daniel plans to work collaboratively with others to expand his visual skill sets.
Statement I focus on the tiny things. As a designer who prides himself on being organized and detailed, my design process involves many iterations before ending up with the final product. My work strives to showcase information in a way that connects the subject's essence to what the viewer sees. I use typography and colors to create artboards in a digital space. I then use my multidisciplinary approach of real world materials, like watercolors, torn paper, textures and more in my work to add more dimension. By using all these different aspects of design, my goal is when an audience sees my work they feel compelled to closely inspect to learn something new. For a viewer to be dragged in by color and design, to then realize that each placement of text and imagery has a purpose and reason for being there.
